A pair of teenagers have been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of two other teens at a school in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bravon Michael Tukes, 19, and Preston Walls, 18, were arrested in connection with the deaths at the Starts Right Here educational program.

Walls is accused of bursting into a common area at the Starts Right Here facility on Monday and then firing off several rounds, fatally shooting 18-year-old Gionni Dameron and 16-year-old Rashad Carr.

Tukes drove the getaway car, which officers pulled over about two miles away from the scene of the shooting, cops said.

Authorities said Dameron and Carr were gang members, but family and friends have disputed those claims. The Des Moines Police Department said the shooting was linked to the suspects’ alleged gang membership.

Tukes and Walls were charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, and one count each of attempted murder and criminal gang participation.

Will Keeps, a gang member-turned-activist who founded Starts Right Here, was also wounded in the gunfire. He was hospitalized in serious condition after the shooting.

When the getaway car stopped, Walls fled from the vehicle, though he was captured and arrested soon after, police said. Tukes meanwhile, sped off in the car, but he only managed to elude officers for a few days before he too was arrested.
