In the full-length trailer for The Mandalorian Season Three, Lucasfilm teases more of Mando’s return to his home planet, Mandalore. He must make amends for taking off his helmet at the end of Season Two and breaking Mandalorian code. As Mando puts it, the journey is so that he may be “forgiven for his transgressions.” Redemption? For Mando? We know the Armorer won’t have such nonsense. But when you have the power of the galaxy’s strongest baby behind you, anything’s possible. Mando looks like he’ll be more space-bound than usual, taking that Naboo N-1 starfighter for a healthy spin. Plus, we glimpse the faces of several old friends, including Amy Sedaris’s Peli Motto, Carl Weathers’s Greef Karga, and Babu Frik?! If I need to remind you who Babu Frik is, well, your shot at redemption is questionable at this point. Oh, and Grogu is also seen absolutely wasting some freaky, alien abominable snowman with his force powers. You can watch that spot below.

What Will The Mandalorian Season Three Be About?

Looks like Din Djarin has a new quest next season. The Book of Boba Fett Episode Five picks up with Mando searching for the remaining Mandalorians. When he finds them, the Armorer teaches him how to use the Darksaber, while Paz Vizsla promptly battles him for it. Friends! What can you say. Mando wins the battle, but admits to the Armorer that he took his mask off during the Season Two finale. (Can’t blame a man for wanting a sweet moment with his alien son.) The Armorer banishes him from the clan, saying his only chance at redemption is by visiting the mines of Mandalore—which don’t exist anymore. Regardless, Mando seems set on doing something, visiting Amy Sedaris’s Peli Motto for a new ship. When Season Three picks up, Mando will certainly be looking to make good with the last of his people, likely by conducting a mission to visit his home planet.

Let’s move to some of the other characters in the Mandoverse, starting with a new addition. In March, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that none other than the legendary Christopher Lloyd will appear in the third season. “Character details for his role are being kept locked in the trunk of a DeLorean, but it has been described as guest-starring in nature,” reads the THR story. This likely means that Lloyd will show up as the chief person of Mando’s interest in a single episode in the third season.

What about our old friends? How about Moff Gideon? Also in Episode Six of The Book of Boba Fett, we learn that he’s in custody, likely destined for prison or execution. You really think that he won’t get away and go after Mando? In an interview between Variety and Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gideon in the series, we got as close to a confirmation as to whether or not Gideon will return as we’re going to get.

“I have to imagine you would. I can’t speak for them, but I know I have desire. I think we need to see Moff to continue the story and to continue the pressure that – and the edge – that someone with the big brain that Moff has thinks about. So, I could almost guarantee it, but you know, there’s never a guarantee, but you know… you’ll see me, baby. Come on! I mean, the fact that I’m here tonight and in the position I am to be nominated for Moff Gideon. I just, I thank Jon Favreau and I thank Dave Filoni and thank Disney and Kathleen Kennedy for producing. This show, though, its’ taken people by storm, because there’s so much to love.”

There’s obviously some tension between Bo-Katan, who wants the Darksaber, and Mando, who won it off of Moff Gideon. We hear a little bit about Bo-Katan from the Armorer in The Book of Boba Fett, mostly just background info that tells us that she didn’t win the Darksaber in battle, meaning therefore Mandalore was cursed. We’d imagine that the battle for the Darksaber will continue to be a major plot point going forward, and it sounds like the actress behind Bo-Katan, Katee Sackhoff, agrees.

“The way that Lucasfilm left me in Season Two, one of the roads that could be gone down—absolutely, you’d think—would be the unfinished business,” Sackhoff told Slashfilm. “But that is so far above my pay grade, and you just don’t know, right? As a fan of the show, I’m just excited to see what they come up with.”

Finally, even the actor-comedian who played the always played the sassing Mayfeld, Bill Burr, addressed whether or not he has a future in The Mandalorian‘s adventures. Here’s what the man had to say to ScreenRant about his hope that he’ll be back in the galaxy far, far away sooner rather than later.

“Oh, I hope so,” Burr said. “Jon Favreau and Rick Famuyiwa, who wrote both of my episodes that I did—to be a small part of something that big that is that good that means so much to so many people. I’m obviously not allowed to say anything other than I just absolutely love being on that show and I hope it continues and if it doesn’t, I’ve had a blast.”

Anything could happen at this point, and that’s what makes this such a fun, game-changing capsule series of episodes for our friend Mando. The Mandalorian, when it returns, will be an entirely different show.
